"Untitled (Brooklyn)"

You know you came to the right place when the second you step out of the cab for your first day the trees are raining white petals down on you, and you pull a comic out within the hour...

It really is beautiful here.

Matt, I've been reading your blogs for the last 2 years but never felt the urge to coment (I practically never contribute to comment threads) but after seeing your rendition of Brooklyn I was speechless. Born/raised in Brooklyn for the past 23 years, I was literally speechless upon reading and seeing your rendition of BKs welcome back Matt sign. Between the colors, your pencil work and your little caption I really felt like u captured one of my favorite scenarios: Reading comics outside as spring creeps up on us with its ever changing colors and beautiful weather that I can look up and appreciate some breath taking sights!
Really though, I just wanted to thank you, not only for this piece of work ( and affected which I fuckin love...can't wait for April to start) but also for expanding my comix mind. My whole approach to this medium has completely changed and while I don't always agree with you, I do honestly believe that you were the catalyst that put me on this path. I have expanded my reading habits to embrace the material that required the sweat and tears of its creators even if I don't always understand the authors intent, these works at the end of the day mean something to me and in the end, that's really all that matters. The feelings I get not only while reading comic but looking for influences, recalling favorite panels by different artists, appreciating linework, etc can only only described as a natural high where I'm constantly trying to learn new things. Without stumbling upon your website I have to wonder if I could have accepted (discovered) Gary parnter's ever changing styles BTW panels, josh cotter breakdown of an actual mental.breakdown or koch's emotional gripping the whale, mike fuires zegas (just got issue 2 and Omg he killed it w his colors as usually but the way he gets the eye to move from panel to panel was phenomenal)??? Recently, i have begun purchasing random heavy metals issues and tonight I stumbled upon a crepax interview from 1981 that will probably be stuck in my head the next couple days/weeks. Clearly I thought of you and between your piece on crepax, this comix and that fortunate discovery I thought It was time I finally thanked you for helping me stay engaged with a medium that I was falling out of love with. But I can honestly say you were a part of that. I will try to stop by Bergen street to say what up and thank you personally. Welcome back to Brooklyn Matt!!!!!

Regards
John

my god, those colors are stunning. Particularly like panels 1,6 and 7.

(cherry blossom season is just starting in Japan too, so very timely!)
